Understanding the New PSLE Scoring System

The new PSLE scoring system, introduced in Singapore in 2021, marks a significant shift from the traditional T-score method to a more holistic approach. This change aims to reduce the intense competition and stress among students by focusing on broader educational goals.

In the new PSLE scoring system, students are graded in each subject on a scale from Achievement Level (AL) 1 to AL8. AL1 represents the highest level of achievement, while AL8 indicates the lowest. The total PSLE score is the sum of the AL scores across four subjects, ranging from 4 to 32, with lower scores indicating better performance.
