Two new features have been added to the media system this week, based on user feedback. If you haven't yet uploaded any of your pictures and screenshots, now would be a good time to do so.
Geo-Tagging
Players now have the ability to optionally specify the location in-game where your screenshot was taken. Simply select the 'Geotag' option from the My Media area of the Media section, pick the map then mark the spot. Any ingame area with it's own world map should be usable so unfortunately Classic and TBC Dungeons and raids do not qualify.
Images which have a location associated will display the name of the location and a link to the map underneath the image on the right. (See the end of the post for an example)
Player Tagging
Players also have the ability to tag characters in the picture in a similar style to how facebook allows you to tag your friends. Select the 'Tag Players' option from the My Media area of the Media section, type a player name, and indicate where on the image this player is. The marker boxes can be moved and resized to accomodate any shape of character from Gnomes to Tauren. There is no limit to the number of players who can be tagged in each image.
Images which have tagged players will list the players underneath the image. Hovering your mouse over a name in this list or the area on the image which has been tagged will highlight which player it is and where in the image they are.
For examples of these new features, please refer to this example image. Thanks to the players who suggested these features, hopefully they will be useful.
Other minor changes include:
- The 'View Original Size' link has been removed from the image itself to make room for player tagging, and the link is now located directly below the image where the original image dimensions are displayed.
- Deleting an image from the My Media section should no longer erase all images from the character's armory profile.
